The Walking Tour
We have won a grant to develop a
historic and educational walking tour through Salem. You will be able
to follow along in Mr. Zac's footsteps on our "Storyline" as you read
our story . Or just pick up one of our free fliers throughout town with
a short description of the walk and the map. Just follow the painted
footsteps and look for plaques throughout the town. These plaques will
identify historic sites illustrated in the book. These sites will have
a sign describing the event that happened here, an audio dialog
triggered by a GPS application on your phone, or will hold original
artwork inside depicting the illustration process of a children's story
The Storyline
Follow in Mr. Zac's footsteps along the "Storyline" painted on the streets and
sidewalks of Salem. To help you along your way, we are offering you
many technologies to assist you on your tour. First you are welcomed to
download our tour maps from Google Maps or Google Earth. Choose from
four tours. The first is for the adventurous who would like to follow
through the whole book in one day and experience it all. The second
tour will encompass only the downtown area. The third will take you
from the McIntire District down Derby Street past the wharves to
English Street. The fourth tour will take you to Juniper Point through
to the Willows and up to the Bridge Street Neck Historic District. Also
GPS notifications on your phone will inform you of events and specials
as pass by several locations in town. Or you can scan the bar codes in
the back of the book to find out what is going on at each of the sites
illustrated in the book.
Guided Tours
Tim Maguire at Remember Salem on Essex Street can
offer you guided tours on foot or on City-side Trolley. This is just
one of the many tours he has waiting for you.
The Future of our Tour
In time we will be using augmented reality to
depict our illustrations in headsets. When you look at a building that
is illustrated in our tale, GPS coordinates will trigger our picture to
appear before your eyes. Look away from the angle that the building was
illustrated the image vanishes and the visors become transparent once
more. Also we will have free access to people walking the tour on their
own to follow the flier and snap shots of the buildings depicted on the
map. When they do their phone can use an application that will identify
the building, provide its history, and show how that building was
illustrated in the book.
