Derby Square Bookstore Sketches

A Mischievous Friar and a Sophisticated Bookworm

Derby Square Bookstore Sketch

The Friar

Close up sketch of the Friar In the sketch above you see this Friar has put down his Bible Studies for thoughts more peculiar. His horns are only peeking through a little. Just a tad....

Ted the Bookworm

Sketch of Ted from Derby Square Bookstore as the Bookworm After Carl Spitzweg's Bookworm, I have taken the owner of Derby Square Bookstore and put him in the manner of the Bookworm from the famous painting. But showcased Derby Square's famous arraingement of books.

Bookworm by Carl Spitzweg in which a man is in Edwardian clothing studying books on a high Library ladder in front of a book case that says Metaphysics. An old doddering old man much engaged.

So Many Options...

Derby Square Bookstore Color Comp One Showing two irregular designs with type spaced in the middle Saying" Curious where the Library of Alexandria went before Julius Caesar set them a flame, or the great Lindisfarne Library before the Vikings pillaged them, or how about those books burned by the the little man with the funny mustache? Ted the Bibliophile has searched long and hard to aquire them all out of histories obscurities. Under his peculiar stacks of books, you may find a scroll from Nag Hammadi, a first edition "To Kill a Mocking Bird", the Cyrus Cylander, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day", or the original Tenniel manuscript to "Alice in Wonderland"! But what is our local Friar up to... He seems to be done studying his Bible, for the day and moved on to some more curious thoughts?" . Then in those shapes, the one has a peculiar man studying a forgotten lore with one tucked under his arm and one in between his knees as he stands on a library ladder amongst piles of books that are laid on their sides in front of the customary book shelves behind. Then to the right you see the outside of Derby Square Bookstore with a Friar on the bench with a curious grin with his Bible laid to the side.
